PDA Industry and Honor Award Winners
Class of 2024
Honorary Membership*
PDA's most prestigious award, conferring lifetime membership benefits to the recipient. The award is given in recognition of very long service, of a very significant nature, to PDA.
Siegfried Schmitt
I was surprised and so delighted when I was told about this award. It is not something I expected. Having been allowed to be the UK’s chapter president for all these years was a pleasure and I was always happy to offer my time to it. This honour is simply wonderful.
In my role, I am required to stay abreast of regulatory developments, and where possible, help shape them. Active engagement with PDA is one way I can achieve this. Rather than being one of many, receiving such an honour shows that my input is meaningful and worthy of recognition. I am inspired by intellectual challenges. Professional awards are an endorsement of one’s work, which is satisfying on a personal level, but even more so on a professional one, particularly in my role as a trusted consultant to the regulated healthcare industry.
This award will no doubt enhance my professional standing. As I am drifting towards retirement, it is very satisfying that I can still contribute to new developments, such as the PDA Points to Consider for Mobile Manufacturing or industry best practices, like the PDA TR 56 technical reports on phase-appropriate quality systems. This will hopefully help the next generations of industry professionals in their daily work.
Dr Schmitt’s areas of expertise include all aspects of quality and compliance for systems, processes, facilities and operations for drug substances and drug products. He consults on compliant quality systems that integrate industry best practices with future-looking compliance approaches.
He has previously held positions in industry as Senior Production Chemist with Roche and global Quality Director with GE Healthcare and as Validation Manager with Raytheon and Senior Lead Consultant with ABB.
Dr Schmitt is the immediate past president of PDA UK Chapter, a conference presenter and organizer of international events. He is also an accomplished author and editor.
He has a background in chemistry with a PhD from Berne university, Switzerland..
