We would like to invite you to submit a proposal for a podium or poster presentation at the 2019 PDA Europe Conference on Project Management in the Pharmaceutical Industry to be held in Munich, Germany on 05 September 2019.

Abstracts must be non-commercial in nature, describing new developments or work that significantly contributes to the body of knowledge relating to project management in the pharmaceutical industry.

PDA Europe specifically invites Start-Ups, CMOs and more experienced SME practitioners to contribute.

Case Studies are particularly desired.

Be invited to submit a proposal for a podium or poster presentation for the 2019 PDA Europe Conference on Project Management in the Pharmaceutical Industry.  This conference to be held in Munich, Germany on 05 September 2019 will provide a special focus on Start-Ups, CMOs and more experienced SME practitioners to contribute. 
Case Studies in particular are prioritized for this event.

Project Management in the pharmaceutical industry comes in a wide variety of forms.  As the lifecycles of a medicinal product or medical device from its early research and development stage to clinical trials, submission and launch, commercial manufacturing and finally to market – each have a multitude of projects that must be executed for a new product for it to provide the cure or alleviation for the patients.

Be it process development, tech transfer, installation of new manufacturing lines, building of facilities, regulatory submissions or launch projects – there are a multitude of projects in the strongly regulated pharmaceutical industry. They do all however have a few things in common: they are time limited, they are specific, they are complex and often multilayered, and they all require the leadership or facilitation by skilled Project Managers.

The pharmaceutical industry has a well of regulations and best-practice manuals for its lifecycle processes. Nonetheless Project Management is considered a discipline and a means to achieve the goals on the path towards successfully marketed products. There are very high demands weighing on Pharmaceutical Project Managers (PPM) – as fast to market is crucial – and time lost is unacceptable. It is apparent that the industry needs trained Project Managers who can skillfully address the needs. The needs are not only turning specifications into design and live structures, it is likewise to address the human and functional interests that exist at all levels. Hence often the PPM must communicate with all from persons in line of business, engineers, R&D experts, Steering Groups to the top management to be a successful Project Manager.

PDA has perceived the need to offer the discipline of Pharmaceutical Project Management its own space: Solid education of future Project Managers is needed. Best practice documents to support the development of Project Management for successful outcomes must be written and a community of practice must be established to assure a forum for communicating PPM experiences.

One of the first initiatives taken was the novel conference Project Management in the Pharmaceutical Industry, which took place in 2018 in Berlin. Munich will stage the second conference in September 2019.

If you are Project Manager working in the pharmaceutical industry, I highly recommend this event. The conference is designed by certified Project Managers with many years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. This conference has a special note - it is a series of case stories highlighting experience – how failures take place and provides learning but also how they sometime can be turned into successes. You will obtain first hand learning experience and discuss topics such as project management across industries, tech transfer and best practices. The Case stories and the dialogues will assist in facilitating tacit knowledge and deepen insights. Naturally, the event will also offer you a great opportunity to expand your professional network, to exchange and connect with other experts in similar positions. We aim to define the first step for the future of education of Project Managers in our industry.

    Continuing Education for Pharmacists

    ACPE PDA is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Participants may sign up to receive Continuing Pharmacy Education (CPE) credits. To do so, participants must sign in at the beginning of the program, submit the provided evaluation forms and mail the CPE credit request to the address stated on the form. Attendees must be present at the full event to receive Continuing Pharmacy Education credit, which will be awarded as follows:

    ALERT   ACPE and NABP developed the CPE Monitor that allows pharmacists to electronically track their continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credits. The CPE Monitor will reject any CPE credit requests submitted past 60 days from date of ACPE-accredited activity. Always submit CPE activity claims as soon as possible. SUBSTITUTION: If a substitution request is sent 30 days before the event, no fee will be charged. After this period, a $200 fee will be charged. If you are a non-member substituting for a member, you will be required to pay the difference of the non-member fee.
