A color code ring is mostly used in the industry today to distinguish bulk syringe products during filling to labeling in internal manufacturing. According to 21 CFR 610.14, HA are asking to improve this traceability process for biologics, not only the product but also the material and batch number should be on the primary packaging containers to avoid mix-ups. A technical evaluation at Novartis revealed that the RFID technology in a RNS is the best option supporting these requirements for pre-filled syringes.
