Nelson E. Rivera Velez is a Consumer Safety Officer for the U.S. FDA CDER in the Office of Compliance, Office of Manufacturing Quality. Prior to joining FDA in 2021, Mr. Rivera Velez worked for over 10 years in commercial drug manufacturing operations, including both sterile and non-sterile manufacturing environments. In the Office of Manufacturing Quality, Mr. Rivera Velez reviews international and domestic drug CGMP cases and supports regulatory and enforcement actions. His responsibilities include evaluating compliance matters and contributing to the development of regulatory responses for pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. Since joining the FDA, he has served in various acting roles including Team Lead, Regulatory Counsel, and Supervisor. Mr. Rivera Velez holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and a Juris Doctor degree. His background encompasses both scientific education and legal training, along with extensive experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.
