Dr. Julian Lenger is a seasoned pharmacist specializing in freeze-drying technologies with over a decade of experience in lyophilization. He possesses robust expertise in the formulation, process development, and analytical characterization of biotherapeutics and small molecules. Since 2025, Julian has served as Head of Laboratory in Parenteral Manufacturing Sciences at AbbVie in Ludwigshafen, Germany, where he leads parenteral drug product process development for late-stage New Biological Entity projects.
Before joining AbbVie, Julian spent over five years at Bayer AG in Wuppertal, Germany, as Head of Laboratory in CMC Drug Product Parenterals, focusing on formulation and process development for early-stage parenteral projects. Prior to his industry roles, Julian completed his PhD at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (University of Munich, Germany) under Prof. Dr. Gerhard Winter, contributing significant research on novel freeze-drying technologies, including microwave-assisted processes and controlled ice nucleation. His academic journey began with a degree in Pharmacy from the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (University of Kiel, Germany), complemented by studies at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland.
