Huiping Tu USP Senior Principal Scientist

Dr. Huiping Tu is a Senior Principal Scientist at the U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP), where she leads the Microbiology and Statistics Expert Committees and spearheads the development of standards related to microbiology and bioassays. Previously, she served as Director of the Biologics Laboratory at USP, managing multidisciplinary teams in bioanalytical, bioassay, and microbiology disciplines. Before joining USP in 2012, Dr. Tu was a Senior Research Scientist at Merck, contributing to early-stage drug discovery within the Cardiovascular Diseases Franchise. Her work focused on target identification, lead compound optimization, and safety assessments. Dr. Tu holds an M.S. in Organic Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Physiology. She brings a broad scientific background with expertise spanning cardiovascular and neurological diseases, microbiology, molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, and analytical chemistry. With over 20 years of experience across the pharmaceutical industry, academia, and regulatory science, she possesses deep knowledge of the USP–NF and the development of pharmaceutical reference standards. Dr. Tu is the lead or co-author of numerous peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals such as Cell, The Journal of Clinical Investigation, and Neuron, and she holds several patents.
