Join us for a tour of the Genentech's Cell Culture and Purification Pilot Plants, where Genentech's scientists and engineers develop and pilot the BioPharmaceutical production processes, technologies, and business processes of the future.

Located in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, Genentech's South San Francisco campus is the "birthplace of biotechnology".

What began as a rented building with just two staff members back in 1976 has grown into a major campus with multiple buildings that house an advanced research center, manufacturing operations and various business functions.

The South San Francisco campus continues to serve as Genentech's corporate headquarters and is also the headquarters for Roche's pharmaceutical operations in the United States.

Cell Culture Pilot Plant

The B6 Cell Culture Pilot Plant is an R&D facility where cell cultures produce the future potential products for Genentech. The CCPP also works with the scientists to improve titers, characterize and validate the fermentation process, evaluate new technologies, and supplies early stage material for the purification process development. Tour members will view both large and small scale fermentation equipment.

Purification Pilot Plant

The B7 Purification Pilot Plant is an R&D facility that performs protein separation and purification operations, process validation, new technology evaluation, scale up development, and "Expert" technology training. Working in partnership with scientists and manufacturing network we ensure that new purification processes are robustly designed and successfully transitioned from development to manufacturing. Tour members will view large scale protein purification processing tanks and equipment.
