Dear Colleagues,
Wearable injection devices, or ‘On-body delivery systems’ as the draft ISO 11608-6 standard refers to them, have come to prominence during the last decade, as the range of technologies, the variety of therapies and the number of organisations offering or developing products have all multiplied.
On-body delivery systems (‘OBDS’) provide opportunities to deliver larger dose sizes or higher viscosities, or both, while minimizing the patient discomfort which might be expected, and can transform the delivery of multiple doses into a single administration event.
This capability to deliver high doses in a single administration event enables more therapies to be moved from the clinic into the home setting, with real benefits in both health economics and patient experience, particularly in the areas of auto-immune disease management and oncology. In some cases, this means that a previously IV administered drug can now be given via the more patient-friendly SC route. OBDS can also enable digital health opportunities with potential for connectivity between drug delivery, patient, and prescribing physician.
However, the many benefits offered by these products can only be realised by dealing with a range of technical, commercial, practical and usability challenges. This workshop will explore these and other key areas and will bring together experts from the pharmaceutical industry, the providers of primary packaging and devices and healthcare professionals to share their experiences. There will be plenty of time allocated for discussion and interaction with the audience as the Workshop focuses on interactive exchange and group activities to ensure a concrete learning for all participants.
If you are involved in research, business development and manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals, primary drug container and parenteral drug device development or quality and regulatory affairs, don’t miss this exciting event!
Sincerely,
The Workshop Lead
