The PDA Annual Meeting is the one meeting each year dedicated to advancing the careers of pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical professionals by focusing program content on science and technology innovation, offering extensive formal and informal networking opportunities and providing a forum to contribute to and influence the advancement of science and regulation in the industry.

Highlights of this year’s conference program include:

  • Concurrent sessions organized by three tracks: Manufacturing Sciences, Biotechnology Sciences, Quality Sciences
  • Keynote presentations by Linda Armstrong Kelly, the mother of Lance Armstrong, who credits her as the unsung hero who assisted him in reaching his spectacular cycling victories and in his triumph over cancer; and Shelley Morrison who plays Rosario on the hit NBC series Will and Grace and who has survived two bouts of cancer.
  • Four-Part Special Focus Session on Mycoplasma
  • Novel manufacturing technologies that enhance patient safety
  • New contaminants: Implications, detection and exclusion

The conference will also feature PDA Training and Research Institute (PDA TRI) training courses, an exhibition of today’s leading pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies, PDA’s 4th Annual Career Fair and enhanced networking opportunities.

Book Signing with Linda Armstrong KellyLinda_Armstrong_Kelly
Monday, April 14 | 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Immediately following her keynote presentation during the Opening Plenary Session, Linda Armstrong Kelly will be signing limited copies of her book, No Mountain High Enough – Raising Lance, Raising Me. Kelly is the mother of Lance Armstrong, who credits her as the unsung hero who assisted him in reaching his spectacular cycling victories and in his triumph over cancer. In her book, she writes about her life as a teenage mother, living in poverty while raising an unstoppable baby boy. It is these and other life experiences that helped form the values and positive attitudes that both she and Lance carried forward into adulthood. Her life is a lesson in self determination and the far-reaching impact of a parent’s positive involvement with a child. Read an excerpt from Linda Kelly's book.

Quality Requirements for Phase 0/1 Pharmaceutical Development Studies
April 16-17, 2008 | Colorado Springs, Colorado
(Workshop immediately follows the PDA 2008 Annual Meeting)
< Additional fee required >

In an effort to increase the efficiency of the drug development process, emphasis has been placed on learning more about a potential new drug candidate earlier in the product life cycle. This, in turn, has brought about an increase in early phase research and clinical trials and the preparation of associated materials, such as challenge agents, biomarkers, PET (Positron Emission Tomography) drugs and precursors, radiochemicals, and various approaches for performing first-in-man clinical supplies (e.g. compounding / practice of pharmacy).

Although the use of these development approaches and associated materials is increasing, there is limited guidance available regarding the preparation of these materials. This workshop will bring together medical, scientific and quality representatives from industry and regulatory to discuss the quality requirements necessary for Phase 0/1 pharmaceutical development studies and associated materials.

Who Should Attend
This workshop will be of significant value to medical personnel performing early phase clinical studies, scientists who prepare materials for these studies, quality professionals who develop Quality Systems to support the preparation of the materials, and regulators who have responsibility to ensure patient safety.
